DJI has finally confirmed the launch date of its next Mini series drone after a wave of recent leaks. For context, leaks and rumours about the Mini 5 series first started appearing at the start of the year. However, it was not until last month that DJI Mini 5 Pro leaks began in earnest.
Now, DJI has revealed that the Mini 5 Pro will officially arrive on September 17. Breaking free of its recent tendency to share teasers a full week before a device's launch, the teaser indicates that the Mini 5 Pro will be available to order from around 12:00 UTC on Wednesday; typically, pre-orders for a new DJI device open within minutes of a launch event going live.
Unusually, DJI has provided a clear look at its next drone too. Although the company does not refer to the drone by name, its teaser video outlines a few details ahead of time. For instance, DJI has already confirmed that the Mini 5 Pro contains a new 1-inch camera sensor with a 24 mm equivalent focal length and an f/1.8 aperture. An upgrade on the 1/1.3-inch camera in the Mini 4 Pro (curr. $759 on Amazon), the new camera is said to output at 50 MP with support for a 2x or 48 mm in-sensor crop. Based on recent leaks, the Mini 5 Pro will launch with the following hardware:
- 1-inch and 50 MP camera sensor
- 4K/120 FPS video capabilities
- ActiveTrack 360°, Waypoint, Cruise Control, Follow (Advanced), LADAR (Lidar Assisted Detection and Ranging)
- Night Mode, HDR, and Noise Reduction
- OcuSync 4 Plus technology
- True vertical shooting with 225° gimbal rotation
- 36-minute official flight times per Intelligent Flight Battery
- Omnidirectional obstacle sensing
- 249 g official stated weight
