Coros Vertix 2S: Touchscreen smartwatch launches as Garmin Fenix alternative with sports, health and navigation features and ECG

Coros is now offering a new smartwatch, the Vertix 2S, which is being marketed as a GPS adventure watch and as a potential competitor to Garmin and its Fenix smartwatches.

The watch weighs 70 grams with a nylon strap and is 16 mm thick. The screen measures 1.4 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 280 x 280. It is a memory LCD that can only display 64 colors and responds to touch inputs. Sapphire glass protects the display and the bezel is made of titanium, which promises high durability in outdoor use. The watch is said to be water-resistant up to a test pressure of 10 ATM, making it safe to wear while swimming.

GPS, Glonass, Galileo, Beidou and QZSS are supported, and the dual-band navigation promises particularly precise localization. In addition to an optical heart rate monitor, there is also a barometric altimeter, a thermometer and a compass. An ECG function is available and blood oxygen saturation measurement is also said to be possible.

Extensive training functions are on board, such as setting target speeds for running/jogging. The 32 GB of storage can not only be used to store extensive maps, including topographical information, but also music, which can then be played via Bluetooth headphones. Battery life is said to be up to 40 days under normal everyday use and up to 118 hours with GPS recording. Complex routes can also be displayed and tracked on a smartphone via navigation mirroring.
