Early ColorOS 17 design elements have reportedly surfaced in ColorOS 16.0.8 through a version 17 Shelf build on the OnePlus Ace 5. The rounded corners and subdued blur effects suggest a restrained “liquid acrylic” aesthetic rather than a full Liquid Glass overhaul, ahead of ColorOS 17’s expected debut on the Find X10 series.

X user LuminanceXS claims to have found early ColorOS 17 design elements already present in ColorOS 16.0.8, spotted through the Shelf component on a OnePlus Ace 5. The visibly rounded corners and blur effects reportedly come from a Shelf build versioned "17", despite the device otherwise running ColorOS 16.0.8. LuminanceXS confirmed the build number directly to us, after their original post listed it as ColorOS 16.1.

The find lands amid weeks of conflicting reports about ColorOS 17's visual direction. Tipster Digital Chat Station previously claimed the update would adopt a "liquid acrylic" take on Apple's Liquid Glass design, a toned-down translucent effect meant to preserve battery life and readability. That was followed by a denial from a ColorOS team manager on Weibo when users asked if Liquid Glass is coming in ColorOS 17.

New design for the confirmation dialog

Screenshots shared by LuminanceXS show the new context menu and confirmation dialog design, alongside a 'Recommended services' toggle and an 'About Shelf' menu all featuring flat, blurred backgrounds and rounded corners, but no strong glass-like translucency. That's broadly consistent with the "liquid acrylic" description of weaker refraction rather than a full Liquid Glass treatment, and doesn't contradict the manager's denial of a dramatic glass overhaul.

Availability

ColorOS 17 is expected to debut on the Find X10 series later this year, built on Android 17.
