ChatGPT connects two Google accounts, write access included

OpenAI lifted a limit on 28 August 2026 that had been annoying plenty of users. Until then you could connect exactly one Google account per plugin. ChatGPT now accepts several accounts for Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Contacts at the same time, inside the same conversation. The release notes give two examples, asking about your day across both calendars and finding a mail across several inboxes.
OpenAI lists the feature as available worldwide on supported Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, on web, desktop, iOS and Android. Free accounts and the Go plan do not appear in that list.
What the Gmail permission actually covers
The interesting part sits in the permissions ChatGPT asks for. OpenAI lists them one by one in its help article on Google app data controls, each of them as a scope. A scope defines which doors an app may open inside your Google account. For Gmail the entry reads gmail.modify, and Google describes that scope in its own developer documentation as "Read, compose, and send emails from your Gmail account". The only thing it rules out is immediate permanent deletion that bypasses the trash.
For the calendar ChatGPT requests calendar.events, which covers the entries themselves rather than a read-only view. Google Contacts is the only one limited to reading. Adding a second account simply doubles that reach. With a work account the Google Workspace administrator also has a say in which scopes are approved at all, and without that approval the connection fails with a permission error.
The training toggle does not cover every route
OpenAI states plainly that its generalized models are not trained on data from connected Google apps. That sentence carries three exceptions, and the third one is the quiet one. It covers content that ends up in ChatGPT's own response. The other two are conversations you submit as feedback with a thumbs up or down, and anything you copy, paste or upload from a Google app yourself. We took apart what the training toggle leaves open last week.
Switch off "Improve the model for everyone" and those routes close. With memory enabled, ChatGPT may also pull information from the connected accounts into personalization, much like what is now possible in temporary chat.
Disconnecting clears less than you would think
You can detach a Google account at any time in ChatGPT settings, and access stops immediately. Existing conversations and saved memories stay untouched, OpenAI says so explicitly, so both have to be deleted separately. Deleted chats are scheduled for permanent removal within 30 days. While you are going through your account anyway, it is worth checking which sign-ins ChatGPT keeps open for you.
