Samsung has come up with some clever ads over the years as it battles Apple for smartphone supremacy. Spotted in Sydney, Australia by Notebookcheck, this latest billboard is one of the first interactive campaigns we’ve seen with what would otherwise be a static poster.

Samsung is famous for ads that have poked fun at Apple fans in recent times, but the latest advertising campaign from the company is focusing on one of the selling points of its new Galaxy S10 range — reverse charging. Samsung calls the feature PowerShare and allows users of the Galaxy S10 or Galaxy S10+ to use the back of their phones to charge other Qi-enabled devices like its new Galaxy Buds and wireless charging case combo, along with other smartphones. We were walking along George Street, the main street in Sydney’s CBD and came across this very clever billboard ad.

As you can see, the ad shows a young woman obscured with a bokeh effect in the background holding a Galaxy S10+ with the back of the device facing the viewer. At the top left of the ad, it invites passers by to “Charge Your Phone Here.” A closer look at what is otherwise a static billboard reveals a smartphone-sized space where you can indeed place your smartphone to get a live charge for it. It is clever stuff and a great way to highlight one of the phone’s key new features.

We’ve previously seen the Huawei Mate 20 Pro with the same feature and it is something that rumours suggest Apple will bring to its next-generation iPhone later this year. Given the recent release of its long rumored second-gen AirPods with wireless charging case, it’s a pretty sure bet something like this is in the cards. Who knows, we might even see an iPhone with reverse charging capabilities before Apple’s infamously delayed AirPower Qi-based charging mat.
