Casio honors a legend with its Bruce Lee-themed limited edition G-SHOCK
Casio has commemorated Bruce Lee, who would have had his 80th birthday this year, with its newly-launched limited-edition G-SHOCK MR-G watch. This model, also known as the MRG-G2000BL-9A, has been styled and designed to reflect its subject's philosophy, influence and contributions, while also retains the specs and properties of its high-end line.
The G-SHOCK MR-G x Bruce Lee Collaboration Model may delight Game of Death fans with its yellow band and black case. The former is composed of Dura Soft Fluoro-Rubber, whereas the latter is made of titanium treated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) for improved resistance to abrasion. In addition, its case and bezel are made of metal that is processed to be "4 times" harder than "normal".
This bezel also comes engraved with the philosphical statement of Jeet Kune Do, a discipline strongly influenced by Bruce Lee, in Chinese ("Using no way as a way, having no limitation as limitation"). Otherwise, the watch features the specs also available in G-SHOCK's MR-G flagships, including the ability to switch between 39 time-zones, 200-meter water resistance, GPS signal reception for accuracy in its timekeeping, and a 1/1-second stopwatch.
The Bruce Lee Collaboration Model will become available via Casio's flagship store in New York or select jewellery stores in April 2020, at which point only 300 of them will be sold. At a price of US$4000, it may indeed be something for the more extreme fans among us.
