Despite its ups and downs, Counter-Strike 2 broke its own concurrent player record with a peak of 1.8 million players. Those who prefer older Counter-Strike games will be pleased to know that a talented team of modders have remade the legendary Counter-Strike 1.6 from scratch. The project is called CS: Legacy, and it was built by the same people that built CSPromod.
CS: Legacy has been built from the ground up on Valve's Source Engine. It features fully custom assets and game code, essentially making it a modern-day take on Counter-Strike 1.6. One can only hope the devs leave some of the quintessential Counter-Strike 1.6 jank in it for the full experience. In the trailer, we can see two maps prominently highlighted: de_nuke and fy_pool_day. Classics such as cs_untitled and cs_untitled2 should also make the cut, hopefully.
Unfortunately, CS: Legacy won't be playable immediately. The game will enter early access sometime in 2025 and a full release will probably take longer. For more information and updates, you can follow the team on all major social media platforms or join the official Discord. If you want to help out the developers monetarily, there's a dedicated Patreon page for that.
