Blackview Tab 10 tablet review: Android 11 for only $190 USD

The Blackview Tab 10 is an ultra-budget Android 11 tablet running on a low-end octa-core MediaTek MT8768 SoC. Its affordable price point of under $200 USD is undeniably attractive for users who just want a simple Android tablet for basic browsing and emailing. There are definitely some surprising pluses about the Tab 10, but the disadvantages are difficult to ignore.
See the official product page on the Blackview Tab 10 for the full list of specifications. Direct competitors to the Tab 10 include other very cheap Android tablets like the Allview iPlay 20, Lenovo Tab M10 series, or the Medion LifeTab series.

Case — Solid, But Huge
The case is rigid and feels of higher quality than what the cheap price would otherwise suggest. Its metal backing and glass front are resistant to twists, creaks, and depressions.
It's worth noting that the tablet is relatively heavy for its size class. Our own scale shows 594 g without the removable cover to be noticeably heavier than the manufacturer claim of 523 g.
Connectivity
The tablet integrates USB-C, MicroSD, and a Nano-SIM slot. The USB-C port is used for data and charging with no support for video-out.
Communication
Transfer rates max out in the mid 300 Mbps range for stable video streaming. Wi-Fi 6 is not supported.
We inserted our T-Mobile Nano-SIM card onto the tablet and received only Edge network speeds. Users will want to check if the tablet is compatible with their local bands before purchasing.
Webcam
Camera quality is sharper than expected for the price. Colors are off, however, and with an overly warm temperature.

Accessories and Warranty
The retail box includes a USB-C to USB-A adapter, USB-C earbuds, manual, 18 W AC adapter, USB-C to USB-A cable, and removable folio case. The standard one-year limited manufacturer warranty applies but claiming said warranty may be difficult for buyers overseas.
Display — Brighter Than Expected
The best thing about the display is that it's relatively bright at almost 500 nits compared to 300 to 350 nits on competing models like the Lenovo M10. Otherwise, nearly everything else is average at best from its black-white response times, contrast ratio, colors, and even multi-touch capabilities. The panel struggles to recognize multi-touch inputs of more than 2 fingers and the limited gamut is immediately noticeable when compared to other cheap tablets like the Allview iPlay 20.

Performance — Snail's Pace
Overall performance is far from smooth because of the slow MediaTek SoC. Simple actions like web browsing or navigating through the home screen result in frequent frame skips, missed inputs, noticeable latency, and loading times that all add up to a sometimes frustrating experience. Gaming performance is similarly disappointing with even the pre-installed Asphalt Nitro game struggling to maintain 20 to 30 FPS.

Transfer rates are decent except when dealing with small 4K block file sizes where they begin to slow to a crawl.
Storage can be expanded via the integrated MicroSD reader. Copying 1 GB worth of pictures from our UHS-II test card to the tablet takes about 20 seconds.

Pros
Cons
Verdict — Cheap, Bright, Heavy and Slow
The Blackview Tab 10 excels in a few aspects while dropping the ball in many others. We love the bright touchscreen that's brighter than many other budget Android tablets like the Alcatel 3T 10 4G or Lenovo Tab M10 for improved outdoor visibility. We also appreciate the strong chassis design that feels tougher and longer-lasting than immediate competitors. Camera quality is good for the price as well assuming brightly lit conditions.
The drawbacks are too apparent to ignore. Performance is incredibly slow to the point of frustration if you plan on using the tablet daily for web browsing or word processing. The lack of external display support or deeper colors are also apparent albeit more forgiveable considering the price. Users may want to consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 which comes with a significantly faster Snapdragon processor for a smoother experience at the cost of a more fragile build.
Price and availability
The Blackview Tab 10 is available directly from Blackview for $189 USD. Alternatively, the model is also available on Amazon for $219.
