Valve has introduced a major update for the Steam Performance Monitor. The in-game overlay can now show more advanced metrics than before, including upscaled FPS, GPU and CPU utilization, memory usage, memory utilization, and temperature.
This updated overlay can even show if frame generation technology is active, and per the announcement, it seems that the in-game monitor can now detect both DLSS and FSR. Users also get the option to play with the contrast and saturation, background opacity, and screen position of the overlay.
Through frame generation detection and the ability to show upscaled FPS, Valve wants to make it easier for gamers to monitor the real frame rates. Now, while the Steam in-game overlay can offer advanced metrics, users have the option to switch to a simplified FPS counter like before.
However, it's worth noting that the updated Steam Performance Monitor overlay is currently only available on the Beta Client. Users can make the switch by heading into the app's Settings, navigating to the Interface section, and selecting "Steam Beta Update" from the Client Beta Participation drop-down.
Another thing to note is that the full set of metrics will initially be available on Windows only. However, Valve plans to expand support to other supported operating systems in the future. You can learn more about the new monitoring features from the detailed guide available in the Steam Support section.
