Best Gaming Hardware Of All Time and Ultimate Game Of All Time announced at the Golden Joystick 2021 awards
The 2021 Golden Joystick awards that took place yesterday celebrated 50 years of gaming with the introduction of two special categories: Best Gaming Hardware Of All Time and Ultimate Game Of All Time. Given the nominees for both special categories, the competition was quite tough, but the winners were somewhat expected, especially on the hardware side.
For the Best Gaming Hardware Of All Time, Golden Joystick included nominees like PS 1/2/4, Nintendo SNES / N64 / Wii, PC, Atari 2600, ZX Spectrum, Amiga 500 and Commodore 64. As it turned out, PC (Master Race) won this category with 17% of the votes, followed by PS2 with 14%, SNES with 9%, PS4 with 8% and PS1 with 7%. Gabe Newell accepted the award on behalf of all PC gamers.
Golden Joystick’s list of nominees for the Ultimate Game Of All Time included notable influential games like Tetris, Pac-Man, Doom ‘93, Super Mario 64, Pokemon Go, GTA V, Halo and the original Sim City from 1989. For some reason the list does not feature popular modern titles like Fortnite, MOBA games or cult classics like Witcher 3, Diablo or Ultima Online. Surprisingly enough, Dark Souls won with 12%, followed by Doom ‘93 with 11%, The Legend of Zelda: BotW with 10%, Half Life 2 with 9 % and Minecraft with 8%.

- Best Game Community — Final Fantasy 14
- Still Playing Award — Final Fantasy 14
- PC Game of the Year — Hitman 3
- Nintendo Game of the Year — Metroid Dread
- Xbox Game of the Year — Psychonauts 2
- PlayStation Game of the Year — Resident Evil Village
- Most Wanted Game — Elden Ring
- Critics Choice Award — Deathloop
- Ultimate Game of the Year — Resident Evil Village
