Microsoft has confirmed that Minecraft has been sold over 200 million times, almost six years after purchasing the rights to the game. The studio behind the game, Mojang AB, has been given a rebrand too and has announced work on new projects.

Microsoft continues to drive the development of Minecraft, the rights to which it purchased in 2014. Having purchased Mojang AB for US$2.5 billion, Microsoft has released Minecraft: Education Edition and Minecraft Earth, along with "Minecraft with RTX", which supports ray tracing and DLSS in.

According to Microsoft, Minecraft has now been sold over 200 million times. Additionally, a total of 126 million players are said to play Minecraft at least once a month. Minecraft Dungeons arrives tomorrow too, while the free Nether update remains on track to be delivered this summer.

Moreover, Mojang AB is now Mojang Studios. The rebrand coincides with the company adopting a new logo, and the announcement of new projects that are already in development. A new film and a live show are in development, too. Clearly, Microsoft and Mojang are not done with the Minecraft brand quite yet. Minecraft is available to purchase for multiple platforms for US$19.99.
