Verdict – A slim power bank

The BMX SolidSafe Air fast‑charges up to two devices with its 20W USB-C output and 15W Qi2 wireless output and recharges at 15W. Its simple design includes a 4-level LED battery indicator and a power button.

As cons, it lacks detailed battery level information, and its maximum power delivery drops when both outputs are in use simultaneously. Nonetheless, the SolidSafe Air has an easy-to-carry titanium-reinforced body that survives being sat on.

Pros

+ Up to 20W USB-C and 15W Qi2 output
+ Easy-to-read battery level
+ Simple one-button control
+ Tough titanium body

Cons

- Thick cases prevent magnetic attachment
- 15W maximum input when recharging
- Cannot be wirelessly recharged
- Titanium body attracts fingerprints

Design

The BMX SolidSafe Air is about the size of a slim credit card holder, making it easy to carry in a shirt pocket or small purse. It is not drop‑ or water‑resistant, but the titanium build gives the body great rigidity. It did not bend when sat on in a back pants pocket during testing.

The flat top cover is made of titanium and does not rock when placed face down on a table. It has a status indicator made of several lights—four white LEDs for the battery level and one blue LED for the charging pad status.

The Qi2 magnetic charging pad is located on the plastic bottom, which has a pearlescent white color. The circular pad protrudes by approximately 0.5 mm (0.02 in.), so the power bank will rock slightly when it is placed on a flat surface with the metal cover facing up and the area around the logo is pressed down.

A power button is on the left edge near the lights. It measures 7.0 x 1.5 mm (0.28 x 0.06 in.) and protrudes by 0.5 mm (0.02 in.). The SolidSafe Air will automatically turn on when connected for charging, and it will turn off automatically after about 15 seconds when not in use.

The power bank can be manually turned on with a short press and off with a long press, and this feature is mostly used to check the remaining battery level without connecting a device.

When charging two devices, a press of the button after connecting the first device allows the power bank to sense and start charging the second device.

A single USB-C port is located along the bottom edge.

BMX says it uses a semi-solid-state lithium-ion battery that utilizes less liquid electrolyte to reduce the risk of battery fires, whether caused by damage or spontaneous occurrence. Safe handling of any lithium battery, as described by the National Fire Protection Association, will help minimize lithium battery fires.

In-use

Charging a device with the BMX SolidSafe Air is as simple as connecting it with a cable or placing it on the Qi2 wireless magnetic charging pad, then the power bank will automatically turn on and start charging. At the same time, the LED battery level indicator will show the current charge level.

When used individually, the USB-C port can output up to 20W, or the Qi2 wireless magnetic charging pad can output up to 15W. When used simultaneously, the USB-C port can output up to 10W and the Qi2 pad can output up to 5W.

The power bank had no issues charging or powering a variety of devices, including smartphones, headphones, toys, and game controllers during testing.

Some of the energy drawn from the power bank is unavoidably lost during the power delivery and charging process. In one test charging an LG G7 (3,000 mAh) battery with the power bank starting with a full charge, an 87% charge was added to the LG G7 by the time the SolidSafe Air was fully depleted. The efficiency of power delivery will differ based on the device being charged.

Recharging the power bank

Recharging the power bank is as simple as connecting it to a USB-C power source. The unit accepts up to 15W of input power for fast charging. The LED status lights will blink during charging while indicating the current battery level and will remain on when fully charged.

During testing, charging from 0% to 100% took 1h 57m while pulling 1.5A at 9V from the charger. The temperature of the case on a 28.0°C (82.4°F) day rose to 34.2°C (93.5°F) and remained steady during charging.

Conclusion

The BMX SolidSafe Air Titanium 5K power bank conveniently fast-charges up to two devices at once, while its Qi2 magnetic charging pad keeps it attached to phones during wireless charging.
