A quick look at the official product page for the Dell 16 Plus shows the Core Ultra 7 256V and 1600p120 IPS configuration selling for $1250. However, manually configuring the laptop with the exact same specifications would bring the price down to $1150 for a savings of $100. What gives?
Confusingly, Dell has two hidden options for the above configuration: one with Microsoft 365 Personal and McAfee+ Premium bundled in and another without the bundle. In order to purchase the configuration without the bundle, you'll have to click through several more buttons via the 'Custom Order' button to receive the lower price. It's arguably a little misleading on Dell's part as a buyer may see the pricier $1250 bundle front and center without even noticing that the exact configuration without the forced extra software is available for less.
The Dell 16 Plus is otherwise a lean and long-lasting multimedia machine, but it's definitely best at the $1150 price point. At $1250, the system becomes more difficult to justify or recommend as the older Inspiron 16 Plus then becomes the faster, cheaper, and arguably superior option instead.
