It has been a few months since Huawei and Honor enabled the SpO2 sensors on the Watch GT 2 and the MagicWatch 2. Both smartwatches had their sensors disabled for some reason, and it remains unclear why Huawei or Honor chose to omit blood oxygen saturation monitoring for six months. Nonetheless, the two companies have now pushed new updates to the two smartwatches.
Since Huawei and Honor are inextricably linked, the changelogs for the Watch GT 2 and MagicWatch 2 are identical. The new firmware version for both smartwatches is 1.0.8.16 and is roughly a 20 MB download. The changelog for 1.0.8.16 is as follows:
- Adds a feature that can automatically detect when you are working out and identify the workout mode.
- Adds a feature for tracking the menstrual cycle and predicting periods. Update the Huawei Health app to at least version 10.1.0.311 to try it out. This feature is only available with an Android device.
- Adds more time zones.
- Improves system stability
Please note that your smartwatch must have at least 20% charge before you can begin the update. The update should have arrived on most Watch GT 2 and MagicWatch 2 units now. You can check if the update is ready to download by heading to Firmware update within the Huawei Health app.
