Reviews for the Asus VivoBook S500CA-DS51T
Inexpensive touchscreen Ultrabook. Though its low budget price of $699 or less can be misleading of its quality, the VivoBook S500CA is actually built surprisingly well with impressive looks. Can this Asus hold up in what is becoming an increasingly common category of touchscreen-enabled Ultrabooks?

We like the price of the S500CA, we like its looks, and the fact that it includes a touchscreen at this price is remarkable. Alas, while the VivoBook S500CA looks the part, more dowdy rivals such as the Sony VAIO Fit 15E deliver a more convincing all-round performance.

With the VivoBook S500CA, Asus maintains its rep for offering mid- to high-end notebooks for mid- to low-end prices and supporting them well. The S500CA is a big-screen, touch-screen desktop replacement with a lot to recommend it, from its perky performance to its above-average audio.

Now, I know I've badmouthed the ASUS S500C quite a bit above, but the fact still remains that it posted decent battery life times, performance numbers, and the price can't really be beat, especially when you consider that it has a touch screen.

The world of 15-inch ultrabooks has always felt odd to me: Intel’s dream of superthin Windows laptops carried over to a big, wide chassis never seemed right, whether it was the 15-inch Samsung Series 9 back in 2012 or this year's Asus VivoBook S500CA, a budget-range touch-screen Windows 8 laptop in 2013. The VivoBook S500CA offers a big-screened touch-screen Windows 8 laptop for a bargain price -- and without many extras.

There’s a lot to like about the Asus VivoBook S500CA-DS51t ($679.99 list). The Asus VivoBook S500CA-DS51t's trim chassis, responsive touch screen, and reasonable price tag work together to create to an affordable Windows 8 experience, but its disappointing keyboard/ touchpad duo and so-so battery life hold it back.

Despite being a fairly average ultrabook, the Asus VivoBook S500CA-DS51t sports a good touch screen and an affordable price tag. While that's not enough to unseat the Acer Aspire M5-481PT-6644 from its throne as the Editors' Choice for entry-level touch-screen ultrabooks, it's nonetheless a good option for users seeking a well-rounded Windows 8 experience without having to drop too much cash.

The ASUS VivoBook S500CA is a Windows 8 touch screen laptop that offers a stylish, portable design, a great-looking display and solid overall performance. It does suffer from below average battery life and an overly sensitive touch pad.

Ultrabooks are aimed at the crowd looking for the ultimate portability without sacrificing performance. The ASUS S500C it the largest ultrabook that we have had come through our labs. Having a display measuring an impressive 15.6 inches, it seems that we might just be pushing the borderline of ultrabook portability. Ultimately it is up to you on what is to big for your taste. Personally 14-15 inches is great for the usage, but 11-12 inches is certainly easier to carry around. It all comes down to what you're looking for. Price is always a factor, During the time I've had with the ASUS Vivobook S500C I can say that I have come to enjoy using it a lot. When I found out the price I can truly say I was shocked. The ACER S7 that we looked at last month retails for $1099.99, since the ASUS Vivobook S500C is quite comparable in the hardware specifications I expected a comparable, if not higher price due to the larger size. Though as I said, I was truly shocked that the ASUS Vivobook S500C retails for only $699.00!

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

72%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
