The Asus VivoBook S15 features a stylish design and well-rounded speakers, but that doesn’t save it from its middling performance, dull display and mediocre battery life.

Yep, ASUS has somewhat downgraded the features of this notebook. And although we really enjoyed the ScreenPad on the previous model, we didn’t really miss it this year. To sum up, this laptop has a very stylish design, coming in a handful of color options, and similarly to the TUF A15 and A17, the VivoBook S15 S533 has some fancy stickers inside the box.

Okay, here’s the thing – this exact configuration of this laptop is priced at RM3,199 – and that Intel Core i5 with MX250 is more than enough for most users out there – especially students. It packs an even better GPU which means we can comfortably play some lightweight titles at higher graphical settings.

All in all, the VivoBook S15 S533 is a great mid-range 15.6-inch laptop that is affordably priced at S$1,498. It brings smooth snappy performance thanks to its 10th-generation Intel i7 processors and comes with a healthy range of I/O ports to ensure you stay connected no matter which port you need. Couple that with its generous battery life that is enough to last you a whole day on the go and you are set for a day out of the house with the VivoBook S15.

Overall performance is pretty good, and battery life is remarkable for such a large notebook. Furthermore, despite the larger display, it isn’t too thick or heavy to carry around. But a few things prevent the VivoBook S15 from getting a higher score. Some of the most important keys on the keyboard are squashed, the trackpad is too small for a notebook of this size, and it doesn’t support USB-C charging. They aren’t necessarily dealbreakers but they are certainly annoying enough for me to mention them again here.

The VivoBook scores points with a Tiger Lake processor, 16 GB of RAM (dual-channel mode), a GeForce MX350 graphics core, and a Thunderbolt 4 port. This is complemented by good battery life. Furthermore, the display isn't convincing.

The Asus VivoBook S15 doesn't excel in any one area – it excels in a whole bunch of them, from the internal specs to the external design. Whether it's the best laptop for you depends on your budget, but at this price we think this is a very difficult laptop to beat.

The positives continue when you look inside the laptop, with the very latest 11th-gen Intel processors on offer, and plenty of RAM for handling dozens of browser tabs or dozens of open images. You've got plenty of internal storage to play around with as well, which is super-fast too: shifting large numbers of files around is yet another task that the Asus VivoBook S15 handles with ease. Everything considered together, this is just about our favourite laptop at the moment. There are more powerful laptops out there, and laptops with better screens, and laptops at lower prices, but for a day-to-day 15-inch laptop that's going to do all the tasks you need it to do and then some, it's very hard to beat at this mid-range price – the perfect balance between price and performance.

Yet with the removal of the second M.2 SSD, it lacks upgradability and that might be an issue for a small group of users. Nonetheless, the ASUS VivoBook S15 S533EA is still a fantastic laptop.

The VivoBook scores with a Ryzen 7-5700U APU, 16 GB of working memory (dual-channel mode) and good battery runtimes. The Vega 8 iGPU remains below its capabilities. The dark, low-contrast screen (FHD, IPS) is not convincing.
