In our video review of the Asus Tuf A16, we described the laptop as a “Full HD Gamer with insane battery life”. That is an apt description of Asus’s AMD Advantage Edition gamer that packs an 8-core Ryzen 7 7735HS CPU and a Radeon RX 7700S and lasted for an incredible 12 hours in our WLAN test. While this battery life is not groundbreaking in the grand scheme of things, these numbers are quite amazing for a decently powerful gaming laptop.
So, if you are in search of a machine that you can use for both playing modern games at FHD and doing a full day’s worth of routine work away from the power outlet, the Asus Tuf A16 deserves your attention. This is especially true now since you can get the laptop for only $719.99 at Best Buy (linked at the end).
Asus Tuf A16 rocks a solid display and FHD gaming performance
With an 86% review rating from us, the Asus Tuf A16 gets a lot right. But, before we discuss the areas where the laptop shines, let’s see a few sectors where the Asus Tuf A16 performs less than ideal.
For starters, the Asus Tuf A16 runs hot when pushed to its limits. Because the laptop runs hot when under stress, the fans also get quite loud. So, you can neither use the laptop on your lap while gaming nor use the machine without headphones.
Additionally, the keyboard is not as crisp as we’d have liked which might make typing longer texts a chore for some.
If these issues are not a deal breaker for you, then the $719.99 Asus Tuf A16 on sale will impress with its 100% sRGB display and gaming performance. We measured the 16-inch FHD+ panel to deliver a good contrast of 1339:1, 300 nits of max brightness, and low response times. The display also doesn’t need any user calibration.
Performance-wise, the Ryzen 7 7735HS and the Radeon RX 7700S will provide enough horsepower to handle 1080p AAA gaming. In our testing, the RX 7700S outperforms the RTX 4060, resulting in 73 FPS in Baldur’s Gate 3 at FHD/ultra.
Finally, with the Asus Tuf A16 on sale, you also get 16 GB of expandable DDR5-4800 memory and 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 storage (also upgradable). There is also a solid port selection which includes one Type-C port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery.
