The Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is one of the most expensive phones around (US$1,499), so those interested in a potential purchase would be hoping for a good result for the camera equipment on DxOMark – and the phone has delivered. While the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders couldn’t manage to leapfrog the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra or champion Huawei P50 Pro at the top of the camera rankings, it did secure a solid fifth position, tying with the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra on 133 points.
The main camera system of the Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is headed by a 64 MP Sony IMX686 sensor that is accompanied by a 12 MP IMX363 ultra-wide lens and 8 MP telephoto camera. The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders offers versatile video-recording options, from 1080p/60 fps to 4320p/30 fps. The device’s photo tests were good across the board, with the fast autofocus and high texture reproduction being singled out as strengths. In fact, the score for the autofocus left the Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders in top position in this sub-test.
Artifacts were an issue for the Asus phone though, and it was also let down somewhat by the wide zoom, which was criticized for being limited in its scope of view. The 3x optical telephoto zoom worked well but couldn’t keep up with those of the ultra-premium Xiaomi phones, and the Asus Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders also struggled a little with texture and artifacts in video-recording tests. The efficient optical image stabilization system helped the device finish on a high, with the overall score of 133 points being a good if not remarkable result for the Snapdragon 888 phone.
