The ASUS ROG Strix Scar presents a compelling option for gamers seeking powerful performance without the hassle of building a gaming PC. Offering comparable performance to top-end gaming rigs while effectively managing thermals, this laptop serves as a portable gaming solution for enthusiasts. However, its premium features come at a hefty price tag. Weighing in at 2.65 kg, the laptop's bulkiness presents a challenge when seeking a suitable backpack for transportation. It is important to note that the ROG Strix Scar is not designed for on-the-go gaming but rather as a high-end gaming device that can be easily transported and plugged in for immersive gaming experiences anywhere. In the gaming devices segment, only a few laptops can rival a fully-fledged gaming PC in terms of performance and efficiency. The ASUS Strix Scar is one among them.

The ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 16 is one of the best gaming laptops currently available for purchase. Talking first about the negatives, the 720p webcam seems unimpressive, particularly since it lacks protective shielding. Many users would appreciate the inclusion of a 1080p webcam instead. The device also does not feature a fingerprint scanner or other biometric security measures, which is a missed opportunity, as it could have offered users a quick and convenient method for secure login. On the positive side, the laptop’s display not only caters to the needs of regular users but also meets the demands of professional image and video editors. The device incorporates a 90Wh battery to sustain the heavy power consumption, offers great thermal management with liquid metal cooling and a triple fan setup, and offers flagship-level performance at a comparatively lower price.

But my misgivings about this notebook centre around the choices ROG made in its design, particularly around the choice of materials used, as well as connectivity, and lack of biometric authentication. The selection of ports feels limited – it should really have two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports – and a 720p webcam seems terribly backward by today's standard. Likewise, the lack of biometric authentication (facial recognition or fingerprint) is puzzling for a notebook in this class. Finally, the mostly plastic construction and arguably outdated design seem at odds for a notebook that is purportedly a brand's flagship. In short, while the Strix Scar 16 dazzles with its display and performance, there's room for improvement (even if they are mostly superficial ones) – especially for a gaming notebook that costs $5,699.

In conclusion, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 is a game-changer, delivering desktop-level performance in a 16-inch laptop form factor. It’s a powerhouse that keeps up with the Scar legacy, featuring the most potent hardware in a premium chassis with a jaw-dropping display. While the range starts at ₹2,89,990, the variant we reviewed comes in at ₹3,29,990. If you’re serious about gaming and want a show-stopping experience, the SCAR 16 is worth every penny. The ASUS ROG series has a legacy of delivering powerful gaming laptops, and the ROG Strix SCAR 16 is the latest addition to the powerhouse SCAR lineup. We had the opportunity to test the SCAR 18 during the Zero1 Awards last December and were quite impressed; it snagged the runner-up position.

If you've got Rs. 3,00,000 to spare and are looking for a high-end gaming machine that you can carry anywhere you want, then the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 2024 is an excellent choice. There aren't a lot of alternatives available at the moment with similar specifications, but you can expect Lenovo, Alienware, and MSI to launch similar spec'd machines. However, what matters the most, apart from performance, is cooling. The laptop is bulky at almost 2.7 kgs, and it probably won't fit inside most daily backpacks, but if you do take it with you, then you will be able to play games anywhere in the world. But then again, Asus probably intends you to use this as your main computer and keep it at your desk. And you can do that. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is so good that it can replace your high-end gaming PC.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is priced at Rs 289,990 in India. I think Asus has done the pricing right on this one. Compared to some of its competitors –– HP OMEN 13th gen and Lenovo Legion Pro 7 –– with similar specs, the ROG Strix Scar 16 is much cheaper. Even though the battery life is average –– which is also the case with most gaming laptops –– the design is super cool with RGB light setup and it has an excellent cooling system. All-in-all, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 gets a big thumbs up from me and I would recommend it if you need a laptop for some intense gaming.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
