Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: Hands-on video with dummy unit highlights design changes from the iPhone 13 Pro Max
Unbox Therapy has shared dimensions from an iPhone 14 Pro Max dummy unit, providing some details about the differences between this year's Pro Max and its predecessor. Supposedly based on leaked CAD files, the video highlights that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be a gradual development from the iPhone 13 Pro Max, rather than a reinvention of the iPhone as the iPhone X was in 2017.
As Unbox Therapy shows, Apple is believed to have equipped the iPhone 14 Pro Max's display with dual punch holes. Purportedly, Apple has reduced display bezels by 20% between generations too, resulting in a 0.01-inch larger panel size, up to 6.69-inches with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The difference in bezel thickness between the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max appears to be slight though, going off Unbox Therapy's dummy unit.
Moreover, Unbox Therapy shows that Apple has made minor adjustments to the power and volume buttons from last year's model. Specifically, the buttons on the iPhone 14 Pro Max are thicker than their iPhone 13 Pro Max counterparts while also being positioned slightly higher. Furthermore, the YouTuber points out that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be a hair thinner than its predecessor at 7.97 mm. In comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is 7.77 mm thick, excluding its camera housing.
The camera housing has grown as well, as have its lenses. According to Unbox Therapy, each lens measures 16.17 mm across, compared to 15.51 mm in the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Also, the camera housing itself has grown to 40.31 mm, up from 38.75 mm. Presumably, Apple has included a larger camera housing for newer camera sensors, although it remains to be seen what difference an additional 1 mm tolerance allows Apple to include in the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Reputedly, this year's Pro Max will feature a 48 MP primary camera, a huge increase from the 12 MP sensor in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
