iPhone lovers are always going to anything smartphone out of Cupertino, no matter how questionable its design aesthetic may be. The new iPhone 11 Pro series has polarized opinions with its new triple-camera design but is getting strong early orders nonetheless. However, Huawei and Porsche Design have partnered to show how a top-notch multi-camera array can be integrated into a smartphone in a way that looks undoubtedly gorgeous.

Huawei didn’t just explode on to the smartphone world stage without some top level help. Knowing that if it wanted to compete with the likes of Apple, and particularly Samsung the high-end Android king, it needed to inject some instant cache. That it did by partnering with high-end camera maker Leica for its smartphone cameras, giving it instant credibility. Next, it partnered with Porsche Design to create some truly stunning limited release high-end smartphones over the past couple of years.

These two partnerships are at the heart of arguably its most beautiful smartphone designs to date, the just leaked Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS. The new Mate 30 RS is a seamless evolution of the already exquisite Mate 20 RS design. As previously, the cameras are embedded flush with the design, unlike the raised camera bump seen on the just leaked Mate 30 Pro. This is integrated into the design in a way that Apple fans can only dream was the case with the iPhone 11 Pro models.

The front appears set to continue the notch seen on last year’s Mate 20 RS but looks like it might be minimized substantially. The position that the cellular connectivity icon appears on the home screen is noticeably higher than it appears on the Mate 20 RS, suggesting that the screen-to-body ratio is going to be well in excess of 90 percent with ultra-thin bezels. As with previous Porsche Design models, expect a custom Android skin with Porsche Design flavorings as well as a tailor-made case and possibly some earbuds.

Also expect a retail price of around US$1799.00 when it is officially launched this week. Expensive, but arguably the best (non-folding) smartphone design for 2019.
