Apple is likely to introduce refreshed versions of its Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad for Mac during its upcoming "Scary Fast" event, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. These updated accessories will make their introduction alongside the 24-inch iMac, and feature USB-C ports for charging, replacing the previously used Lightning ports.
This transition to USB-C for charging is in line with Apple's broader product strategy, as all four iPhone 15 models have already made the switch to USB-C ports from the previous Lightning connectors.
It remains uncertain whether there will be any design alterations beyond the shift to USB-C. The accessories have largely retained the appearance they had when they underwent their last significant update in October 2015. Nevertheless, there have been minor revisions over the years, including the adoption of braided cables and the introduction of new color options, exclusively available with the 24-inch iMac. Additionally, Apple also introduced a Magic Keyboard equipped with a Touch ID button in 2021.
Having been a longstanding quirk in the Apple community, the Lightning port's location on the underside of the Magic Mouse has been a source of humor and criticism for many years, as it renders the mouse simply unusable while charging. The placement of the USB-C port on the upcoming version is yet to be revealed, and it is hoped it will provide a more convenient charging experience.
