Almost two years have passed since Analogue first showcased what we originally termed a '4K reimagining of the Nintendo 64'. Arguably, the device has had the rockiest of routes to market so far, with countless issues pushing the console's release further and further back.
Just last month, Analogue delayed initial shipments until Q4 2025 despite taking $249.99 for each pre-order placed in October 2024. As we discussed at the point of the 3D's most recent delay, Analogue has never shown a working unit. However, that has now changed thanks to a short video included in the first Analogue 3D press kit.
Embedded above, the video shows the Analogue 3D connected to a modern TV with 1080° Snowboarding inserted into its cartridge slot. Unfortunately, 1080° Snowboarding only reaches the title screen in the 32-second clip. Hence, while we have now seen at least a prototype unit in action, Analogue has elected not to showcase gameplay footage yet.
Nonetheless, Analogue claims that the 3D provides 100% cartridge compatibility. An important note hides at the bottom of Analogue's 'Introducing Analogue 3D', though. Apparently, the console does not support openFPGA, unlike the Analogue Pocket (curr. $320 on Amazon). Therefore, one will be unable to play N64 games using ROM files.
