Alleged domestic prices for the Huawei P40 series will frustrate buyers of the global variants
The alleged domestic prices for the Huawei P40 smartphones have been leaked online, and they are considerably lower than the prices customers will have to pay for the flagship smartphones in the European and UK markets. It has been estimated that the prices will end up being around 30% cheaper for the Chinese models compared to the global variants.
It appears a list of supposed prices in China for the Huawei P40 series has been leaked, and it is surprising just how much of a deal Chinese buyers are going to get compared to what potential customers in Europe and the UK will have to pay. For instance, it seems the cheapest model, the Huawei P40 with 8 GB + 128 GB, will cost 4,488 yuan (~US$632). That equates to roughly €578 or £508.
A quick glance at Huawei’s online store for the UK shows the P40 priced at £699.99 (~US$871), which is almost £200 (~US$249) more expensive than the Chinese variant of the same phone. The European market price for the same 8 GB + 128 GB Huawei P40 phone is listed as €799. It’s a huge difference that runs throughout the range (see comparison table below).
Of course, there’s always the chance that this leak of domestic prices for the Huawei P40 series is inaccurate, but if it is genuine then it will certainly make European and UK customers question the value of the product they are considering purchasing, regardless of market differences, average incomes, and state taxes.
