Opinion | The bezels of the Huawei P40 Pro underlines why you should not trust marketing renders
While Huawei is not the first manufacturer to shave a few millimetres off the bezels of its latest smartphone in marketing renders, it is the latest to do so. The difference between the marketing renders and the reality of the P40 Pro and P40 Pro+ is particularly striking, though.
If you head to either the P40 Pro or P40 Pro+ product pages, then Huawei presents its "Quad-Curve Overflow Display" as being almost bezel-less. Marketing images show both devices as having a tiny black border, and one that is almost uniform in its thickness across all sides of the display.
Sadly, Huawei is playing games with consumers, again. As Ben Geskin demonstrated to his followers, the bezels of the P40 Pro are about twice as thick as they are in official renders. Our hands-on with the P40 Pro confirms this, and the P40 Pro+ should be no different.
Overall, it is a shame that Huawei is misleading people in this way, just how Lenovo did a few years ago with the Z5. This tactic is not exclusive to smartphones either, as anyone who has bought an external monitor in the last few years can attest.
