Alleged 2024 MacBook Pro with Apple M4 gets briefly listed at ~$7,500 on Russian marketplace ↺
The leaks about the MacBook Pro with Apple M4 are all over the place. First, there was a retail box leak. Then, two Russian YouTubers seemingly unboxed the unannounced laptop, one of whom has also shed light on the possible performance bump compared to the base M3 model. Now, it is supposedly listed on a Russian marketplace.
While these leaks may look legitimate, there are still some concerns. All of them hide the full serial number from the supposed retail box of the M4-powered MacBook Pro. Moreover, the box has the laptop with the same wallpaper as the packaging of the M3 model, which is a bit unusual as Apple tends to offer new systems with a refreshed box.
Of course, the alleged unboxing video by Romancev768 did seem more legitimate than the others. The YouTuber opened "About the Mac" in the video, revealing that it's indeed an M4 MacBook Pro. But again, Romancev768 shows that there are three Thunderbolt ports, which was one of the exclusive features of the upper-end configurations.
Getting back to the listing on the Russian marketplace, it popped up on Avito, an online shopping site similar to eBay. There, the MacBook Pro M4 was listed at RUB 720,000, around $7,455. This is an absurdly high price tag for the laptop, though it should be considered that Apple hasn't yet announced it. However, X user Apple Pro notes that the listing was later removed because the site doesn't allow posting ads for "non-existent" items.
Another thing to note is that this likely won't be the only public listing of the 2024 MacBook Pro that will surface before the official release. ShrimpApplePro previously reported that an unnamed seller claimed to have 200 units in stock. If that holds true, this would undoubtedly be one of the major warehouse leaks, and it's possible that all the past leaks, including the one about a private Facebook group, originated from Russia.
As for the official unveiling timeline, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman recently said that Apple is expected to launch the new MacBook Pro with M4-series SoCs in early November. Given November is around the corner, it wouldn't be wise to get the base 2024 model from a third-party reseller now, especially at such a high price.
