The Dell Alienware M15 R7 is one of the best gaming machines you can buy. The combination of i7-12700H and RTX 3070 Ti, along with the 240Hz screen, makes for a pleasant and easy-on-the-eyes gaming experience. The trackpad area can get a bit warm during prolonged use, but this is not at the expense of performance. However, the Alienware M15 R7 lags behind the competition in terms of cooling. Of all the high-performance machines we tested, such as the Acer Predator Triton 500, Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, and ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15, the Alienware M15 R7 was the warmest, and we felt that the cooling was not adequate. Note that all of these laptops have the same specifications, so cooling becomes a big differentiator between them. If you are looking for a gaming laptop with a special design and RGB, the Alienware M15 R7 is a good option if you are using it with a keyboard. Alienware has always charged a small premium over the competition, but this time we feel that the premium is hard to justify. You can take a look at the ASUS TUF F15 and the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, which offer similar performance but better thermal management.

There’s something special about owning an Alienware laptop. It’s a unique breed altogether and I was completely enamoured during my two weeks of testing this beast. However, I would be lying if I said that it is the perfect gaming laptop. It excels at raw gaming performance and even serves as a solid everyday computing machine. The space-age design is a head-turner and the fast display options make it worth the money. But there are minor quirks though. Battery life is underwhelming, the fans can get extremely loud, and the sheer weight questions its portability. It is also more expensive compared to similar offerings by Lenovo, ASUS and MSI. But if you can live with these issues, then the Alienware m15 R7 is worth your money and time.

Dell’s Alienware gaming laptops can be a very mixed bag. With an almost ridiculously huge range of models available, there’s always going to be some chaff that needs to be separated from the (admittedly more plentiful) wheat. Thankfully, the new Alienware M15 R7 sits firmly in the cereal grain category - a well-rounded 1080p gaming machine with a shiny 12th-gen Intel processor at its core. At first glance, the M15 R7 is the same as almost every other Alienware laptop released in recent years; an indented screen hinge, a long ring of RGB lighting along the rear edge, and that iconic alien-head logo illuminated in vivid blue. It’s a tried-and-tested design that we can’t blame Dell for sticking with - after all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That being said, at first glance there’s perhaps one area Dell could’ve improved things here - and it’s not actually on the laptop itself.

15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.2.69 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
