Acer’s latest Predator Helios 300 is an attractive choice for gamers who want a mid-range gaming laptop that can handle the latest titles, and even achieve 30 frames-per-second (or better) with ray tracing on. The model I tested, which retails for $2,099.99, can meet or beat more expensive competitors like the Alienware R15 and Razer Blade 15. Gamers must compromise on build quality and portability to snag the laptop’s alluring performance. The Predator Helios 300 is heavier and thicker than an Alienware R15 or Razer Blade 15, and it doesn’t last as long on a charge. It also feels and looks less premium despite Acer’s minor design refresh. The Predator Helios 300 isn’t spectacular, but it’s respectable and well worth its price. Gamers who rarely travel with their laptop or don’t mind its bulky frame will look past the laptop’s limited portability and appreciate its top-notch performance.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 (2022) is exactly the kind of outstanding performance that anyone could hope for in a gaming laptop, with phenomenal frame rates and multitasking capabilities, matched to a gorgeous QHD display at 240Hz. All that power comes at the expense of an almost nonexistent battery life, however, and the best configurations get expensive fast.

The 2022 Predator Helios 300 is once more a competitive performance/gaming notebook in the mid-tier segment. Acer updated the design, the screen options, the inputs, and the ports, added a 90 Wh battery and a beefed-up thermal module, as well as significantly more powerful specs than on the previous generations. As a result, this laptop is more competent in demanding loads and games, and lasts for longer with daily use on battery. At the same time, the 2022 Helios 300 runs warmer and noisier, still lacks in audio quality, and is no longer as competitively priced as it used to be.

If you told me that I’d be touching a 3D gaming laptop in 2022, I would have laughed in your face and I mean a mighty hard guffaw. But yet, almost 11 years since my last 3D system here comes Acer making me rethink what I thought was only a fad. The Acer Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition laptop delivers powerful performance with a gorgeous display that seamlessly transitions from 4K to a glasses-free 1080p stereoscopic 3D experience. 3D gaming is smooth and definitely adds noticeable depth to compatible titles. Now the trick is, convincing gamers that this is worth investing in and unlike previous attempts at 3D gaming, this is more than just a flashy gimmick to the tune of $3,399. I think Acer is making a pretty good case as it has over 50 titles, the majority of them AAA, ready to play out the gate. It’s going to be on Acer to keep the stream of games coming to make this a worthwhile investment. But gamers looking for a non-VR method to achieve an immersive gaming experience, the Acer Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition is the way to go.

15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
