This isn’t the most stylish gaming laptop, but the Acer Nitro 5 is brilliantly balanced for 1080p gaming at high refresh rates, and versatile enough to handle creative work as well. Most importantly, it’s brilliant value, giving you high-end performance and a premium experience at a mid-range price.

The new Nitro 5 delivers very good 1080p gaming performance for £1,700. That alone is a reason to consider buying one but it does have other attractive features such as an expansive and high quality keyboard, the facility to add a 2.5in HDD to the system, a MUX switch, a Thunderbolt 4 port and a surprisingly quick SSD. The absence of per-key RGB is a bit annoying and the battery life is short but I’d take those shortcomings given the performance per pound on offer here.
