Acer Nitro 5 AN515-46: cool FHD gaming notebook with decent battery life
Acer's Nitro 5 series consists of entry-level and mid-range gaming devices. The laptops are positioned below the Predator series, with prices reaching up to 2,500 euros. Today's test unit is available starting from 1,750 euros. The device's case is made of black plastic - not the high-quality materials one might expect for a device in this price range.
With its combination of a Ryzen 7 6800H APU, a GeForce RTX-3070 Ti Laptop GPU (TGP: 150 watts, 8-GB GDDR6 VRAM), and 16 GB of RAM (DDR5-4800, Dual Channel mode, two memory banks), the Nitro 5 is set up for demanding applications such as video processing, rendering and gaming (at FHD resolution and maximum settings). The GPU performance is often better than our current average for the RTX 3070 Ti.
The fast PCIe 4 SSD provides sufficient storage capacity (1 TB) for a gaming notebook and ensures short load times. Should users run out of storage space, they can always install a second PCIe 4 SSD in the free slot.
One battery load (57.5 Wh) lasts just under 6 hours when using Wi-Fi, which is pretty decent. The battery can be recharged with a universal USB C AC adapter (min 65 watts, 20 V). The USB 4 port supports Power Delivery (and DisplayPort via USB C). This means users don't necessarily have to carry the large 280-watt AC adapter around with them at all times.
