Reviews for the Alienware m15 R3 P87F
It may look the same on the outside, but it's a different beast on the inside. CPU temperatures are much cooler now to address one of our biggest concerns about last year's Alienware m15 R2.

The Alienware m15 R3 is one of the better gaming laptops we’ve reviewed thus far. Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s hard to complain given what you’re getting. You get powerful performance, improved thermals over its predecessor, excellent RAM and storage configuration, Wi-Fi 6, good array of ports, one of the best keyboards on a laptop with per-key RGB lighting, 144Hz refresh rate with options for a 300Hz refresh rate, and a useful Alienware software suite in a portable, yet attractive body.

Regardless, the m15 R3 is still comparatively pricey to your run-of-the-mill gaming laptop, which is something you will have to factor into your decision. However, this one aligns more closely to a boutique experience, with high quality construction, an excellent cooling solution and a head-turning aesthetic. All that said, the Alienware m15 R3 is fast, beautiful, and definitely worth a look, if you're in the market for a powerful gaming laptop.

All in all, the Alienware M15 R3 doesn’t suffer from too many fatal flaws. It’s just that the competition is getting that much better, and the likes of Razer and MSI one-up Alienware’s offering with thinner design, better battery performance, and more comprehensive upgradeability. If the company can make its next iteration go more toe-to-toe in those departments, it’ll be a real contender.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX502 held the crown as our top pick among premium gaming laptops for a long time, but the Alienware m15 R3 has proven a better value. It’s slightly less expensive than the Asus machine as configured, packing superior gaming performance, a newer processor, a more advanced display, and a unique design. We liked what the Razer Blade 15 and Acer Predator Triton 500 brought to the table, but the m15 R3 is a better deal, earning our Editors' Choice in this category.
