Affordable designer tablet with stylus & satellite positioning - Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro review

Green design.

The Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro is only available in Europe via import. Nevertheless, we got ourselves the stylish device and took a closer look at it. There is a Lenovo tablet that is very similar to the Pad 60 Pro and has already won us over. Can Motorola's green designer device do the same?

Verdict on the Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro

The stylish Pantone green, the chic design with the grooves on the casing and the shiny Motorola logo, the sturdy unibody casing - yes, you could go into raptures about the design of the Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro. Especially for a tablet costing under $400, this is not to be taken for granted.

For people in Western countries, however, it is difficult to obtain and only gets updates up to Android 16. In addition, there are warranty issues that do not arise where the tablet is officially sold.

For its price, the Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro offers a lot of power and a fast screen, although it could be brighter. Fast WLAN and even satellite positioning are also pleasing.

You have to do without a mobile network option, and the cameras are more of a makeshift solution. The tablet is also relatively heavy for its size.

Overall, it's a great tablet at a very reasonable price.

If you love the design, it may be worth importing. However, if you are only interested in value for money, the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is a better choice for people in the West, as it is available without import costs and comes with a warranty.

Pros

+ beautifully designed metal unibody
+ high stability
+ fast USB port with display connection
+ microSD slot
+ fast WiFi 6E
+ 144 Hz display
+ plenty of power
+ Moto Pen Pro included
+ powerful speaker sound
+ Satellite tracking
+ 45W charger included
+ good price-performance ratio
+ no PWM flickering

Cons

- in many countries only as an import
- no mobile network model
- Cameras only makeshift
- Display too dark
- somewhat heavy
- only updates up to Android 16
- hardly any sustainability information

Price and availability

We got our device from Ebay as an import from India. Apart from the high shipping costs, we had to deal with long delivery times of almost a month and import duties.

If the design does not matter to you that much, you can also get the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro which is almost identical and is available in regular shops. For example, amazon.com offers it for around $360.

Case and features – A true designer piece

The chic bronze green of the chassis was selected by Pantone and looks really good on the tablet: discreet enough for business use and chic enough to impress your friends. The metal unibody achieves this anyway.

Although the tablet is very closely related to the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro, the design of the back is unique: there is a shimmering Motorola logo in the centre and a diagonal striped pattern around the camera module at the top.

The tablet is very sturdy and comes with IP52 certification, meaning it is protected against dripping water and dust.

The Moto Pad 60 Pro is available with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage. We tested the smaller storage variant, which uses UFS 3.1 flash. The USB port can transfer up to 5 GBit/s of data and also allows connecting a monitor via Display Port.

A microSD reader is available and works sufficiently fast.

Communication and operation – Fast WiFi 6E

There is no version of the Moto Pad 60 Pro that connects to a mobile network, but you do get WiFi 6E and thus access to the less-used 6 GHz band. Our test device receives and sends data quite quickly and can easily keep up with other tablets in its price range.

The 144 Hz monitor is smooth to operate. The standby button is located on the left side of the case and has an integrated fingerprint reader. It can be used to unlock the tablet reliably and quickly.

The Moto Pen Pro is included in the scope of delivery. Apart from the imprint, it corresponds to the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus. Thanks to 4,096 pressure levels, it allows for precise drawing and writing. If necessary, the pen can be magnetically attached to the back of the tablet.

Software and sustainability – Hardly any differences compared to Lenovo

The software is very similar to ZUI on the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro; a direct comparison can be seen in the screenshots below. Apart from the Motorola start-up animations and the brand-style initial setup, there are a few differences in the pre-installed programmes. This may be because our Moto Pad 60 Pro comes from India.

Software updates are available up to Android 16, so probably only until next year.

The Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro does not use plastic in its packaging. Otherwise, however, there is hardly any information about sustainability.

Cameras – Fine for everyday use

Front camera picture
Front camera picture

The tablet's cameras are more of a makeshift solution. The rear 13-megapixel lens takes passable photos, but they lose detail in bright and dark areas. In low light, the image becomes grainy and the camera coating cannot prevent reflections on the lens.

Videos can be recorded in a maximum resolution of 4K at 30 fps.

Images from the 8-megapixel front camera are generally usable, but here too, bright areas quickly become overexposed.

Display – Brighter would be better

The IPS screen has a diameter of 12.7 inches and a resolution of 2,944 x 1,840 pixels. There are only minimal differences to the Idea Tab Pro: it is the same panel with similar pre-calibration.

Although the brightness of around 400 cd/m² is acceptable for this class, it is usually not sufficient for use in bright environments, as reflections quickly appear on the display.

We did not notice any PWM flickering, even at very low brightness levels.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.
Screen flickering / PWM not detected

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8167 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured.

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.
       Response Time Black to White
16.3 ms ... rise ↗ and fall ↘ combined↗ 10.1 ms rise
↘ 6.2 ms fall
The screen shows good response rates in our tests, but may be too slow for competitive gamers.
In comparison, all tested devices range from 0.1 (minimum) to 240 (maximum) ms. » 37 % of all devices are better.
This means that the measured response time is better than the average of all tested devices (20.3 ms).
Response Time 50% Grey to 80% Grey
38.8 ms ... rise ↗ and fall ↘ combined↗ 20.7 ms rise
↘ 18.1 ms fall
The screen shows slow response rates in our tests and will be unsatisfactory for gamers.
In comparison, all tested devices range from 0.165 (minimum) to 636 (maximum) ms. » 57 % of all devices are better.
This means that the measured response time is worse than the average of all tested devices (31.7 ms).

Performance, emissions and battery life – lots of power, great sound

The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 is a real powerhouse for its price range, enabling smooth system operation and the use of more complex apps.

Heat build-up remains very reasonable and the system only throttles minimally under continuous load.

The system comes with four speakers, which have been tuned by JBL. The sound is powerful and even low frequencies are audible. External audio devices can be connected via USB or Bluetooth. All important audio codecs are available for the latter.

The Moto Pad 60 Pro comes with a charger and a maximum charging power of 45 watts. This means it takes just over 2 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge the 10,200 mAh battery. The tablet then achieved a runtime of 13 hours and 7 minutes in our Wi-Fi test, which is an average value for this price range.

Notebookcheck Overall Evaluation

Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro in review.
Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro in review.

The Motorola Moto Pad 60 Pro looks very attractive and offers great value for money.

However, importing it to Europe is hardly worthwhile given the existence of its sister model, the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro, unless you absolutely must have this designer piece.
