The Swift range was launched a year ago in Glasgow and I have previously looked at a different model from the same range. This is a rather smart looking Notebook with the screen capable of going back to 180 degrees.

The Acer Swift 3 isn’t a perfect laptop: it looks good, but some of its peers are prettier; battery life is decent, but some last longer.

The Acer Swift 3 isn't quite the ultra-bargain the last the last model in this series was. However, it's still a cracker of a deal when in numerous respects it can match laptops hundreds of pounds more expensive.

The Acer Swift 3 is a budget laptop with an impressive all-metal design, but it skimps on some features you might find important.

The Acer Swift 3, in the form we tested it, is a midrange laptop that demonstrates the compromises we often have to make when shopping for a laptop. Are there faster systems available? Sure. Are there lighter, cheaper, or better-equipped ones? Undoubtedly. But at the end of the day, the question you always have to ask yourself is: Does the laptop offer enough for the price to meet my needs? And for a fair number of users, we imagine, the answer will be “Yes.”

The Acer Swift 3 is a decent midrange laptop with solid construction and strong performance. But its keyboard is shallow, and its display is dim and bland. On top of that, Acer's giant pile of bloatware evokes an experience usually only found on bargain-bin laptops.

The Acer Swift 3 2017 is a stylish, long-lasting, slim and plenty-powerful laptop for a reasonable price. It isn’t as outstanding a bargain as its predecessor, but it’s still well worth a look.

Acer Swift 3 is a sturdy Windows machine that also manages to look elegant. Surely it is a copy of Apple's design, but then it works well. It is light despite its 14-inch screen and has good build quality. The keyboard, the plastic inserts around the display, or the hinge... all have good build quality. Having said that, it isn't as well-built as the MacBook Air itself, for example, that sells at the same price, and the battery backup you get is far less than advertised.

The Acer Swift 3 is a seriously impressive laptop for its price. It delivers an absolutely fantastic combination of looks, features, performance and battery life that no other machine can match for the same money. There are a few laptops of similar price and spec – such as the Lenovo Ideapad 510S – that deliver most of the same features and performance, but they can’t match the Swift’s all-metal exterior.

Intel HD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2) found on some Kaby-Lake CPU models (15 W ULV series).

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

i5-7200U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.5 to 3.1 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.

Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.

77.5%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
