Not in the last place, there is an integrated stylus. It works like a charm, and the magnets that hold the laptop in tablet mode result in a very stable work. Our only complaint would be the way you access the stylus – you need to lift the laptop if it is in conventional mode or open it up if it’s in tablet mode.

The Acer Spin 3 is a 2-in-1 laptop that struggles to overcome mediocrity — standing out of the crowd is not its forte. The Spin 3 doesn’t have the best benchmark scores, but it’s adequate enough for students and casual creators seeking a decent productivity machine.

The Acer Spin 3 is competitive in its class of budget-friendly 2-in-1 laptops. It's well built and looks nice, it packs a convertible touchscreen with Wacom AES pen support, good IO on the sides, modern hardware and a pretty large battery. It's also competitively priced. However, despite all these, it's hard to recommend this in 2020, for three main reasons: poor typing experience, dim and washed out screen, and especially the fact that you'll get better value with other types of notebooks out there, such as mid-tier clamshell laptops, 2-in-1 Chromebooks or previous generation higher-tier convertibles.

If you're looking for a laptop with a 360-degree hinge that doesn't cost a fortune, the 2020 Acer Spin 3 has a lot going for it. It's not got a premium build, but it dresses itself up well given the asking price.

Selling for $649.99 as tested, Acer's latest revision of its Spin 3 would be a good value even if it didn't come with a carrying sleeve and a stylus pen. This 14-inch convertible 2-in-1 laptop combines an Intel 10th Generation Core i5 CPU with an adequate 8GB of memory and 256GB solid-state drive. It's a handsome design, if at 3.3 pounds a little heavy to hold in your hands as opposed to resting in your lap in tablet mode. It performs capably, though it's no speed demon like the AMD Ryzen 5-powered Editors' Choice Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14 that it competes with. If you're looking for a flip-and-fold laptop/tablet/kiosk/easel design on a tight budget, the Spin 3 deserves a spot on your short list.

For a budget laptop that’s largely middle-of-the-road, the Acer Spin 3 still manages to stand out because of several forward-looking features. The Thunderbolt port, the integrated stylus, and the Wi-Fi 6 antenna are things you won’t find on many other models in its price range.

You do have options. You could pay $30 more to buy the Acer Swift 3 SF314-42-R9YN, which is both lighter and faster. (My gut says that AMD Ryzen 4000-powered laptops will be the budget laptop story of 2020.) Or if battery life is your priority, Lenovo’s Yoga C740-14IML excels—and it’s also more expensive. If you shop around and still end up with the Acer Spin 3, though, you shouldn’t be disappointed.

The Acer Spin 3 convertible is half laptop, half tablet. Is the device a lazy compromise in both categories, or is the compact 14-inch device a cheap deal with its Intel Core i5-1035G4 and Iris Plus Graphics G4 paired with 8 GB of RAM at around 800 Euros (~$954)?

Acer's 2-in-1 laptop is equipped for office and Internet operation with a Ryzen 3 APU, 8 GB of working memory in dual-channel mode, and an NVMe SSD. The touchscreen can not only be operated with the fingers but also with an active input pen.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
Intel Iris Plus Graphics G4 (Ice Lake 48 EU): Integrated graphics card in Intel Ice-Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 11 architecture with 48 of the 64 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model ranging from 300 MHz base to 1050 - 1100 MHz boost. The Ice-Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel produced.
AMD Vega 3: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 3 CUs (= 192 shaders) and a clock of up to 1200 MHz.

Intel Core i3:
i3-8145U: Whiskey Lake based low power dual-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The two cores are clocked between 2.1 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.
Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:
i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
Intel Ice Lake:
i5-1035G4: A low-power, Ice Lake family processor (SoC) featuring 4 cores, 8 threads, 6 MB of L3 cache and the Iris Plus G4 (48 EUs) iGPU. This Core i5 saw the light of day in H2 2019; it is designed for use in highly portable consumer laptops. The CPU cores run at 1.1 GHz to 3.7 GHz. The Sunny Cove microarchitecture that is in use here is notable for several improvements over Skylake including support for new technologies, new instruction sets and fast LPDDR4-3733 RAM. There is no PCIe 4 support here, however.
AMD Picasso (Ryzen 3000 APU):
R3 3250U: An entry-level, dual-core APU designed for use in affordable laptops. The Ryzen features two Zen cores clocked at 2.6 GHz to 3.5 GHz (SMT support is enabled for a total of 4 threads) and a Vega series graphics adapter. These specifications are similar to the older 3200U, with the higher peak operating temperature of the latter (105 °C versus 95 °C) being the only difference.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

75.49%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
