The Nitro V16 is a gaming laptop around the 1,000-dollar mark that offers more than decent performance for its price (Ryzen 8000 & RTX 4060). Find out here whether the 16-inch device did just as well in all the other categories. First things first: Acer has unfortunately failed in one important aspect.

If you are looking for a gaming laptop that with a modern graphics card that doesn't break the bank, the Acer Nitro V 16 AI might just fit the bill. We took a detailed look at the 16-inch model featuring the AMD Ryzen 5 240 and the RTX 5050 Laptop GPU and explain its strengths and weaknesses in this review.

The Acer Nitro V 16 AI is a respectable budget gaming laptop that provides decent game performance and surprisingly good battery life. I also like the laptop’s 16-inch display with 1200p resolution, which is a step up from competitors with a 15.6-inch 1080p display. Other advantages include a wide range of physical connectivity and a decent touchpad. However, the AMD Ryzen 5 240 doesn’t post great results in CPU tests and the laptop has to make do with just 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The built-in speakers are a miss, too. I recommend the Acer Nitro V 16 AI over most of the budget gaming laptops I’ve tested or used in 2025. It’s among the more affordable entries in this arena and manages to avoid issues (like short battery life and a sub-par display) that impact competitors including the Lenovo LOQ 15 and HP Victus 15. Also keep a sharp eye on price.

The review included the youngest version of the Acer Nitro V 16S AI, but it also performs its tasks well. The configuration is enough for comfortable gaming at native resolution, and the cooling system allows the laptop to work stably under any load. At the same time, the model's case has a relatively small thickness, and the weight reaches only 2.1 kg. The display is high-quality, bright and has a refresh rate of 180 Hz, the keyboard is full-size and quite comfortable to use, and the set of connectors has everything you need, including a card reader. And it is worth mentioning separately a good level of battery life, as for a gaming model.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU: High-end graphics card for laptops based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. Offers 8 GB GDDR6 (128 Bit) and is configurable with a TGP of 35 - 115W (+ Dynamic Boost).
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop: Entry-level graphics card from the Blackwell family for Laptops with 2,560 unified shaders (CUDA cores) and a clock rate of 1500 - 2662 MHz depending on the TDP setting. According to Nvidia, the performance without DLSS and frame generation should be comparable to an RTX 4060.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop: Mobile mid-range graphics card from the Blackwell family based on the GB206 chip with 3328 shaders and 8 GB GDDR7 graphics memory (128 bit).
These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop: An upcoming graphics card from the Blackwell family for laptops, which Team Green will most likely present at CES 2025. Considering that the 4070 laptop has 4,608 unified shaders (CUDA cores), the 5070 will most likely have well over 5,000 shaders.

AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):
R7 8845HS: A powerful Hawk Point family chip that saw the light of day in H2 2023. We believe the 8845HS to be an R7 7840HS in disguise but with higher clock speeds on the Ryzen AI NPU. The 8845HS features 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) running at up to 5.1 GHz. Last but not the least, the Radeon 780M serves as the integrated GPU.
R5 240: An upper mid-range processor (APU) of the Hawk Point family. The Ryzen 5 240 is a rebadged Ryzen 5 8645HS. The CPU has 6 SMT-enabled Zen 4 cores (12 threads) running at 4.3 GHz to 5.0 GHz.
R7 260: A fast Hawk Point family chip that saw the light of day in H1 2025. The chip is identical to the old Ryzen 7 8845HS, meaning it is an octa-core Zen 4 CPU running at up to 5.1 GHz. Furthermore, the chip integrates a dedicated NPU with 16 TOPS.
Intel Raptor Lake-H:
Core 9 270H: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 6 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading for 20 threads in total. The CPU clocks with up to 5.8 GHz. Compared to the pre-refresh top model, the i9-13900H, the Core 9 270H offers a 400 MHz higher Turbo clock speed and supports slightly faster DDR5-5600 RAM.
AMD Strix / Gorgon Point:
Ryzen AI 7 350: A relatively powerful Krackan Point family processor that was introduced in early 2025. The APU integrates 8 CPU cores (4 Zen 5 cores with up to 5 GHz and 4 Zen 5c cores with up to 3.5 GHz).

16.00:
This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.

67.85%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
