Reviews for the Acer Aspire Vero AV14-51-72DL
Acer tries to go sustainable with the Aspire Vero: the stylish blue chassis of the 14-inch laptop is partially made of recycled plastic. In addition, the laptop offers great performance, Thunderbolt 4 support and excellent battery life.

The Acer Aspire Vero 2022 shows that recyclable, eco-friendly laptops can actually be good. Sure, it has its drawbacks but it’s certainly capable enough as a daily driver. Do keep in mind that Malaysia will only be getting the 15-inch variant as the 14-inch variant isn’t being brought here. It’s essentially the same, just bigger, with retail prices starting from RM2,599 to RM3,299 for the Intel Core i5 and i7 variants respectively.

Although Acer could have coasted on the Aspire Vero’s recycled materials and cool design, we were surprised to find that it’s a very competent laptop. Between its decently peppy Intel chip, excellent battery life, and plentiful ports, there’s tons to love on top of its eco-conscious design. Once you uninstall Norton and the other annoying bloatware, you’ll have an awesome little computer. That said, the things Acer is doing with the Vero series shouldn’t necessarily need calling out–they should be a baseline for the industry. We’d love to see the post-consumer recycled materials and eco-friendly thinking used here across the Acer lineup and beyond. If combined with a upgradeable, super repairable approach like that of Framework, there could be a meaningful reduction of waste in laptop computers that could keep a lot of useful material from the landfill.

All in all, the new Acer Aspire Vero shows improvement in both big and small ways. While it may not be much greener than the original, it offers better performance across the board, keeping competitive with other consumer laptops. Still, this is a notebook for a generalist, not a specialist; no one should expect to do any serious gaming or workstation-style visual rendering or video editing here. But if you're looking for a more-ecological-than-average option that performs admirably for under $1,000, this Vero earns a green thumbs up.

The idea of buying a product that is made with specific efforts to rescue its environmental impact is appealing to many — and I, personally, appreciate the effort. It is also nice to see such care taken in producing such a product without expecting the consumer to make sacrifices on quality or usability. The Acer Aspire Vero accomplishes this task. It is a competent machine with above-average specifications that should be able to handle most of what anyone would want from it. It won't be a high-end gaming machine but it also does not come with that sort of price. Compared to other computers with similar equipment, its price actually comes in on the low side of $899.99. Laptops from competitors with 16 GB RAM, 1 TB of storage, a high-resolution display, and a 12th-generation, 10-core processor can easily exceed $1,200. While it is not itself aiming to appear to be a value product, it is a good value. It also has the good fortune of being packaged in an eco-friendly recycled plastic case that is attractive and appears to be just as durable.
