Aaeon is expanding its lineup of desktop computers, most of which are mainly designed for professional and industrial users. This also applies to the so-called UP Xtreme ARL Edge, which is intended for AI applications and comes with an Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, Intel Core Ultra 7 255H or 265H processor, depending on the configuration.
The device also has up to 64GB LPDDR5 RAM, which is soldered and cannot be replaced or upgraded later on. However, the SSDs can be swapped, as there are two M.2 2280 slots along with a SATA connector available. As usual, there is also an M.2 2230 slot for a WiFi and Bluetooth card. Cellular connectivity can also be added using an M.2 3052 modem.
Uncommon connectivity options
The mini PC further offers a GPIO header with 40 pins, which can be used to hook up external sensors and actuators and integrate the system with industrial machines. This data can be analyzed directly on the Aaeon UP Xtreme ARL Edge. RS232/422/485 connections are also supported, which are commonly used in laboratories and industrial settings. USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports are onboard as well, as are HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 for multi-monitor setups. Additionally, there are Ethernet ports with 2.5 Gbps and 1 Gbps of bandwidth.
Mini PC alternatives for regular users
The compact computer measures 6.0 x 4.9 x 2.8 inches and can be mounted on a VESA bracket or on a wall. Aaeon has not revealed any pricing info, but alternatives for private customers are available at Amazon and many other retailers.
