Aaeon launches Panther Lake Edge mini PCs with Frore's AirJet active cooling system

Taiwanese system integrator Aaeon announced the availability of its UP Xtreme PTL Edge Air mini PCs that integrate Frore Systems’ AirJet solid-state active cooling system instead of the conventional heatsinks with fans. Frore’s AirJet tech makes use of ultrasonic-frequency membrane vibrations to generate high-speed pulsating airflow. These mini PCs feature the same hardware specs as the UP Xtreme PTL Edge models launched earlier this year, but come with considerably more compact cases that are only 35.8 mm high (35% thinner) and weigh 1.57 lbs (43% lighter).

Thanks to the highly efficient and powerful Intel Panther Lake platform, the UP Xtreme PTL Edge Air mini PCs are designed for Edge AI applications including industrial robotics, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), AI vision, 3D LiDAR, and VSLAM. Aaeon offers processor options such as the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, Core Ultra 7 356H, or Core Ultra 5 325. The faster models also feature the 12 Xe-core Intel Arc B390 iGPU, while the cumulated AI processing power that is provided with the integrated fifth gen NPUs may reach up to 180 TOPs. System RAM is upgradable via the two included DDR5-7200 SODIMM slots which allow for a maximum capacity of 128 GB. The storage side offers 2x M.2 2280 (PCIe 5.0 + PCIe 4.0).

Port selection is solid with 2x USB4, 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, dual HDMI 2.1 (+ dual DP 2.1 from USB4), dual 2.5 GbE NICs, combo audio jack, 40-pin GPIO and 2x COM. Wi-Fi is not provided by default, but users can add a Wi-Fi card via the M.2 2230 E-Key slot.

While the AirJet solid-state cooling system is quiet even in full load (21 dBA maximum noise) allowing for vibration-free operation in industrial environments, the membrane-based coolers still come with slight disadvantages such as 5% increased power draw (100 W total system draw) and the operating temps are also reduced to -10 C ~ 45 C.
