ASUS TUF Gaming AS2000 PLUS: New military-grade portable SSD with up to 20Gbps transfer speeds launches
ASUS' TUF Gaming AS2000 PLUS is a new portable solid-state drive (SSD) that utilizes M.2 NVMe PCIe technology and a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface. The drive claims to achieve transfer speeds of up to 20 Gbps. With up to 2 TB of storage capacity, the TUF Gaming AS2000 PLUS could be well-suited for gaming, large file backups, and 4K content storage, among other utilities. Alongside its appearance on Chinese e-commerce website JD.com, the SSD showed up on the ASUS official website as well.
The drive's design is a clear reflection of the 'durability' aspect of it. It sports a very similar design to the slower AS2000 SSD, albeit with a whole different outer material. The TUF Gaming AS2000 PLUS meets U.S. military-grade MIL-STD-810H standards for drop resistance and achieves IP68 certification for water and dust resistance - which means user data should be safe from accidental drops, spills, and harsh environments. The PLUS variant, unlike the AS2000, has a high-grade silicone rubber exterior, making it even more resistant to shocks.
The TUF Gaming AS2000 PLUS features an aluminum-alloy chassis equipped with a thermal pad for effective heat dissipation. This cooling mechanism helps to stabilize data transmission and prolong the SSD's lifespan, ASUS says. Additionally, the drive comes bundled with NTI Backup Now EZ software, valued at up to $35.99, for data backup and recovery.
The TUF Gaming AS2000 PLUS is compatible with a wide range of devices, including PCs, laptops, mobile devices, and gaming consoles such as the PlayStation and Xbox. The SSD also includes a dashboard utility that allows users to monitor key parameters such as temperature and storage status.
The 2TB TUF Gaming AS2000 PLUS SSD is available to order via the ASUS web store for approximately $263.50 when converted from its list price in Swiss Francs. On the other hand, JD.com has the SSD listed for 1,649 yuan (~$230).
