AMD Ryzen 5 7540U with Radeon 740M spotted in purported Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 and Asus ROG Flow X13 with no release date in sight
During the Ryzen 7000 mobile unveil back at CES 2023, AMD indicated that the 4 nm Ryzen 7040 Series "Phoenix" Zen 4 lineup will include both HS and U series APUs. However, we are yet to see laptops featuring these chips. Now, references for what appears to be a Phoenix APU have surfaced online. We also get to see a new RDNA 3 iGPU, the Radeon 740M.
The APN code 100-000000966-50_Y references an AMD Ryzen 5 7540U APU with six cores and 12 threads. IT also features the Radeon 740M iGPU, which is a trimmed version of the Radeon 780M/Radeon 760M found in the Phoenix HS series APUs.
Two systems featuring the Ryzen 5 7540U that benchmark aggregators could recognize include the Lenovo LNVNB161216 and the Asus ROG Flow X13. The Lenovo motherboard nomenclature indicates that we could be looking an IdeaPad 330 or an IdeaPad Gaming 3 kind of laptop.
We have previously tested the ROG Flow X13 with an AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS and an optional RTX 3080 Laptop GPU. Asus announced the ROG Flow X13 2023 during CES but didn't mention the exact processor being used. It looks like Asus might opt for the U series Zen 4 chips this time considering that the previous Flow X13 did have somewhat higher heat and noise emissions.
Laptops powered by AMD Phoenix have been officially delayed till April for want of "platform readiness". While Phoenix 7040HS-powered laptops can be expected this month, it is still not clear when 7040U series laptops will hit shelves. But with random online listings popping up, hopefully they don't get delayed much.
