AMD Radeon 890M iGPU outperforms desktop Nvidia GTX 1650 in multiple games
AMD Strix Point brought many improvements to the table. As we noted in our Zen 5 iGPU analysis, the lineup has also introduced the fastest integrated graphics to date, the Radeon 890M. This top-end iGPU of the Ryzen AI 300 series is based on RDNA 3.5 architecture and features 16 CUs (compute units).
The level of performance it delivered in our benchmarks was much better than that last-gen Radeon 780M, and it seems that the Radeon 890M has what it takes to beat desktop graphics cards too. More specifically, as shown by a YouTuber with AMD APU Gaming channel name, the new iGPU can beat the desktop Nvidia GTX 1650.
Of course, the Radeon 890M didn't take the lead in all the games that the YouTuber has benchmarked. For example, in Devil May Cry 5, the iGPU matched the performance of the desktop GTX 1650 most times but dipped by 5-10 FPS in some instances. The performance between the two was also very identical in God of War.
However, the AMD Radeon 890M took a noticeable lead in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. The game was tested at 1080p with high visual settings, and the desktop GTX 1650 was around 10 FPS behind.
Another game that was benchmarked is Cyberpunk 2077, and the iGPU delivered up to 45% better performance at 1080p low. The most noticeable difference was seen in Robocop. This game was tested at 1080p with 85% scaling and low visual settings, and the Radeon 890M stayed above 30 FPS all the time, while the GTX 1650 dropped as low as 20 FPS in some instances.
Other notable games tested in the benchmark include Forza Horizon 5, The First Descendant, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. In all these titles, the Radeon 890M was ahead of the desktop Nvidia GTX 1650. Given that the drivers for the RDNA 3.5 iGPUs are still new, the performance can get even better in the future.
Worth noting that the desktop graphics card was paired with AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 32 GB of DDR4-4000 RAM. The laptop that it was against is the new Asus VivoBook S 16 OLED (available on Best Buy), which sports the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM.
