AMD CPUs, Nvidia GPUs, LPCAMM2: Redesigned Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 5 with AMD Ryzen 9 HX 400 announced

At the Nvidia GTC 2026, Lenovo is announcing a host of new ThinkPad workstation laptops. This includes the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 9, the most expensive ThinkPad, but also the new Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 5, a much more affordable 16-inch model. And unlike the ThinkPad P1, the new ThinkPad P16s Gen 5 will be available with Intel and AMD CPUs.
ThinkPad P16s Gen 5: LPCAMM2 for the first time with AMD
Especially the presence of AMD chips is significant here. Lenovo offers up to the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 H CPUs, as well as AMD Ryzen AI 400 with the AMD Ryzen HX 9 as the high end option.
While the P16s Gen 4 (available on Amazon) also was offered with AMD CPUs, Lenovo uses a different chassis design for the Intel and AMD models. With the P16s Gen 5, both use the same mechanical design, which also brings the advantage that the AMD models now have an option for dedicated GPUs - Lenovo will offer up to the Nvidia RTX Pro 2000 Blackwell with 8 GB VRAM. And the new design also includes LPCAMM2 memory, with up to 96 GB of RAM. This marks the first time that the LPCAMM2 format is used for a laptop with AMD CPUs.
A mainstream 16-inch workstation: Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 5
As far as the other specs go, the Lenovo ThinkPad P16s G5 has a good feature set for a mainstream workstation. This includes 16-inch 16:10 screens in either a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) IPS flavor or 2.8K (2,880 x 1,800) OLED one, Wi-Fi 7 and 5G, an SD card reader, as well as up to 90 Wh of battery capacity. The display cover is made out of aluminum, the palmrest magnesium - in total, it weighs 1.75 kg, not too heavy for a 16-inch workstation.
The fact that the P16s Gen 5 is a cheaper workstation variant is also visible in the specs, as there is a small 60 Wh battery option, as well as a 45 % NTSC entry level screen. Plus, the laptop does not offer Thunderbolt 5, unlike the expensive P1 Gen 9, and there is only a single M.2 SSD slot.
Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 5: Pricing and availability
The Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 5 Intel will be available in May. Customers who want the AMD variant have to wait a little longer, until June. Lenovo did not yet announce the pricing for this laptop.
