Released in mid-August 2022, the Samsung Odyssey Ark surfaced at CES 2022, when everyone considered it a concept that wouldn't hit the market anytime soon. When this happened, the price tag of well over US$3,000 kept many potential buyers away. Since then, the monitor with the short model number S55BG970NN (the long one is LS55BG970NNXGO) had an all-time high price of US$3,499.99 at the end of August 2022, dropped to US$1,883.92 this March, and now is 26% down to US$1,999 (from a US$2,699.99 list price). According to Camelcamelcamel, the average price of the Samsung Odyssey Ark is US$2,460.82 right now.
Leaving the 55-inch size aside, this monitor with 1000R curve has quite a few highlights worth mentioning. The Quantum Mini LED panel has a resolution of 3,840 X 2,160 pixels, up to 165 Hz refresh, and 1 ms GtG response time. Despite its dimensions, the Samsung Odyssey Ark can be used in the Cockpit Mode with HAS, tilt, as well as pivot adjustments.
While ambient Eclipse Lighting is not a feature that should be overlooked, the Sound Dome technology steals its spotlight for sure. According to Samsung, Sound Dome can produce a 60 W 2.2.2 audio experience thanks to four corner speakers and two central subwoofers, going all the way to 45 Hz, the lowest of any gaming screen or sound bar. In the sound department, AI Sound Booster and Dolby Atmos are also present.
On Amazon, the Odyssey Ark now has 195 user reviews and a modest rating of 3.8/5. Obviously, the breakdown by feature starts with a 2.8 rating for value, followed by 3.9 for gaming performance, 4.2 for picture quality, and 4.3 for brightness. On Samsung US, the monitor has a 4/5 rating after 182 votes.
