2024-bound Oppo MariSilicon smartphone SoC to be manufactured on TSMC's N4 node
Rumours about Oppo developing its own mobile SoC have been around since 2019. While the Chinese phone maker has successfully developed an ISP in-house, its mobile AP wasn't rumoured to hit shelves till 2024. A new rumour from Weibo by well-known leaker Digital Chat Station now sheds light on some of its specs.
Oppo's MariSilicon SoC will supposedly feature an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. While the exact core configuration isn't known, one can reasonably assume a 1+3+4 layout inspired by last-gen APs. Given it has been in development for a while, it will probably use last-gen Arm cores such as the Cortex X2, Cortex-A510 and Cortex-A710. Lastly, the GPU could be an off-the-shelf Mali SKU. Oppo has thrown in a next-gen MariSilicon NPU in the mix as well.
Performance-wise, Oppo's MariSilicon smartphone SoC is expected to match that of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. While that claim seems a tad ludicrous for a first-gen product, it is manufactured on TSMC's N4 node, thereby giving it a much-needed competitive advantage. Moreover, a 2024-release window implies it could debut alongside the Oppo Find X7 series.
