GIGABYTE announced the 2023 AORUS 15 gaming laptop in February with Intel Raptor Lake processors and RTX 40 GPUs. The AORUS 15 (BMF) featuring an RTX 4050 GPU and a Core i5-13500H CPU has now dropped from its recent sales price of US$949.99 to US$799.99 (via slickdeals). The 16% discount has brought the AORUS 15 down to its lowest price in 120 days at Best Buy according to Honey’s price history.
The GIGABYTE AORUS 15 is a mid-range gaming notebook, as evidenced by the CPU and GPU on offer, packing 8GB of single-channel DDR5 memory and 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. Although 8 GB RAM is hardly enough for a gaming laptop, there are two SO-DIMM slots available for memory expansion (one occupied). Similarly, the storage can also be augmented, as the AORUS 15 features two M.2 2280 slots one of which houses the aforementioned 512 GB drive.
The display on the GIGABYTE AORUS 15 is a 15.6-inch FHD panel with a 16:19 aspect ratio. Unfortunately, the screen only covers a rather limited 45% of the NTSC gamut. Although the narrow color space coverage makes the AORUS 15 practically unsuitable for color-sensitive work, it is fine for gaming especially since the panel also boasts a snappy 144 Hz refresh rate.
On the performance side of things, you can expect the AORUS 15 to handle just about any game you can throw at it thanks to the Core i5-13500H and RTX 4050 on offer. For instance, our measurements show that the RTX 4050 is enough to sustain demanding AAA games like Immortals of Aveum, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and The Last of Us at 47 FPS, 53 FPS, and 68 FPS respectively at FHD resolution with High graphics.
Finally, we noted in our review of the AORUS 15 BSF that, with a 99 Wh battery, the laptop lasted 10:19 hours in our WLAN test. Since the AORUS 15 on sale packs a similarly-sized power pack but offers a lower resolution display and less power-hungry internals, it ideally should last even longer.
Long story short, the US$799.99 AORUS 15 appears to be an excellent deal for a laptop that packs good entry-level to mid-range performance and long battery life.
