Apple's inaugural fold release is likely a way off from reaching retail status quite yet. By all accounts, Apple will not be looking to challenge Google, Samsung and other foldable smartphone manufacturers until next year at the earliest. More recent indications suggest that Apple may hold out until 2027 to time the device's release with the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.
Nonetheless, that does not stop the likes of Digital Chat Station from delivering new piece of the puzzle well ahead of time. This time, the leaker claims that Apple has adopted a new display size for its latest engineering sample. For context, Digital Chat Station previously reported that Apple's first foldable had 'almost' a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded to mimic the form factor of iPads like the iPad Pro (curr. $899 on Amazon).
Writing on Weibo, the leaker now asserts that Apple has moved to a 14.1:1 outer display with the same display resolution and overall proportions as older prototypes. Meanwhile, the inner display is now believed to have a 14.6:1 aspect ratio intersected by a selfie camera hidden behind a small hole-punch. The foldable is currently being development with a side-mounted Touch ID sensor too, unlike the ultrasonic equivalents that Vivo has used in its recent foldables.
