Reviews for this year’s laptops powered by the RTX 5070 are in and it looks like this dGPU SKU is barely faster than the previous gen RTX 4070, at least in games, since it is still limited to 8 GB VRAM. The question then becomes why pay extra for the newer technology, when prices for the previous gen are in free fall? Especially now that refurbished models provide excellent reliability and even steeper discounts. The Acer store on Ebay currently has one the best prices for an RTX 4070 laptop, but this is not one of those lower tier models with flimsy chassis and budget displays. This is actually a premium model from the 2024 Predator Helios Neo lineup with a slim profile, which is now available at under $1,000.
Acer ensures that these are certified refurbished units looking like-new and coming with all the accessories of the factory versions. MSRP as per the Ebay store is $1,700 for a brand new unit, yet the refurbished ones are now 42% off at just $984.39.
The PHN14-51-79UB model from the Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 lineup is powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H processor with 16 cores and 24 threads. The only downside is that it features 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM that cannot be upgraded. It does, however, integrate a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. For more information on how this model performs, one can check the similar SKU we reviewed last year.
On the display side, we find a quality IPS LCD panel with 14.5-inch diagonal, 2560 x 1600 resolution, G-Sync compatibility and 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as 100% sRGB color gamut.
Port selection includes a Thunderbolt 4 connector, 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, HDMI 2.1 video out, audio jack and microSD card reader. Wireless connectivity is ensured via an Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 card. To round things up, Acer offers a 2 MP webcam, RGB keyboard with Copilot key and a 75 Wh battery.
