iPhone 12 unit sales crack 100 million in seven months
The latest report on iPhone sales has found that Apple shipped its 100th million unit of the latest 12 series by April 2021, 7 months after their launch. This is a feat the OEM has not achieved since the release of the 6 and 6 Plus in 2015. The iPhones 12 have also brought in 22% more revenue than their predecessors
The iPhone 11 series passed the 100 million mark in terms of unit sales 9 months after their launch. However, the latest report from Counterpoint Research indicates that their successors have beaten them to this milestone by 2 months, thereby equalling the 6series' record from 2015.
Then again, this series consists of 4 variants (the Mini, vanilla 12, Pro and Pro Max) compared to 2 (the 6 and 6 Plus; then again, it was so successful it got what might be thought of as a second run: the 6s and 6s Plus). Of these, the Pro Max has proven the most successful of the most recent line, with 29% of its sales worldwide.
This most expensive variant and its siblings also brought in 22% more revenue than their 11-series counterparts within their first 7 months of being on the market. Counterpoint also now reports that the iPhones 12 have achieved "a record-high market share in the US since October 2020". Those findings apply to the first quarter of 2021, although the group expects the trend to continue into subsequent quarters.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
