Xiaomi reveals new Redmi Pad model variant with more RAM
Xiaomi has introduced a new version of the Redmi Pad, repeating a trick it trotted out with the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 in September. As we discussed at the time, Xiaomi released a new memory option roughly a month after announcing the Pad 5 Pro 12.4 in China. While that new option bridged the gap between the tablet's entry and mid-range SKUs, the latest Redmi Pad version is the most expensive SKU in the range.
Initially, Xiaomi revealed the Redmi Pad with 128 GB of storage and either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM. Now, the company has released an 8 GB of RAM edition, albeit with the same amount of storage. Still, the Redmi Pad supports up to 1 TB microSD cards, rendering a lack of storage a none issue. For reference, the new Redmi Pad offers the same core features as its siblings, with a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC joined by a 10.6-inch display, an 8,000 mAh battery and twin cameras.
At launch, the 8 GB of RAM SKU costs CNY 1,799 (~US$251), CNY 300 (~US$42) more expensive than the 6 GB of RAM version but CNY 500 (~US$70) pricier than its 4 GB of RAM counterpart. The announcement of a new Redmi Pad SKU in China has not coincided with a corresponding global announcement. If the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4 is anything to go by, then this new premier Redmi Pad SKU may remain a Chinese exclusive indefinitely.
