Xiaomi 12 Pro: 120 W fast charging could be exclusive to Pro smartphone during December 28 launch with new Surge P1 chip
Xiaomi has revealed a new in-house chip designed to handle 120 W fast charging. To date, the company has brought 120 W charging to market with the Xiaomi 11T Pro and the MIX 4, although the latter is unavailable outside China.
Apparently, Xiaomi's new Surge P1 chip will help optimise the Xiaomi 12 Pro's 120 W charging performance compared to the Xiaomi 11T Pro and MIX 4. In a blog post, the company claims that the Xiaomi 12 Pro will recharge from 0% to 100% in just 15 minutes. Seemingly, this is the same charging technology that Xiaomi introduced in October with the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus.
However, the Surge P1 should also reduce excess heat and will allow for up to 50 W wireless charging. Incidentally, Xiaomi has teased 'Dynamic Performance Scheduling', a technology that can maximise performance from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 while keeping temperatures to a minimum. Still, Xiaomi expects the Xiaomi 12 Pro to exceed 43 °C when gaming.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro arrives on December 28 with at least the Xiaomi 12. Potentially, Xiaomi will release the Xiaomi 12X simultaneously. Separately, Evan Blass has leaked Xiaomi 12 promotional images and videos. Based on Xiaomi's blog post and teasers, the Xiaomi 12 Pro will be the only one of December 28's new smartphones to support 120 W fast charging.
